Dan Kryger was well known as an expert and authority
in artistic printing, etching and engraving, techniques that he taught for many
years at the print studio at the Tel-Aviv artist house and at the print workshop
of Tel-Aviv Museum of Art. He published the principles and details of the
printing techniques based on and his professional and vast experience in a book
that became well known to artists and print professionals. (Artistic
Graphics, Etching and Engraving and other techniques, 1995, 2000) Dan Kryger passed away this year at the age of 84.
He was not only known as a master in the artistic graphic techniques, but also as
an interdisciplinary creative artist, researching and combining between
artistic media, leaving an impressive body of work. In his long life artwork we can find
a personal intimate statement, sensitive and open, introspective, dealing with
human relations of family, close friends and colleague artists.
A closer look reveals a complex, sensitive personality, inspired by the reality
of his life, the encounter with close people who touched and deeply influenced him,
as did the tragic events of hi life.
We can also find political and social statements, exhibits expressing strong
opinions about issues of the problematic reality and critical events of our
life.
From an idea to artwork, he created many combinations, looking for the essence
and the right expression, combining between matter and material.
Dan Kryger was born in Paris, grew up and
studied in France, and came
to Israel
in 1960.
As an artist he was inspired and influenced by both worlds and cultures, with
allusions to French language and poetry, creating between Paris and Tel-Aviv.
The Exhibition, a farewell to Dan Kryger, opens an opportunity to encounter his
artwork with a fresh look. The exhibition was made possible
with the support and courtesy of his family, mainly the daughters Niba Kryger Schneider
and Gaia Kryger Goodman, who took an active part in the production of the
exhibition.
